From your cheeks to your lips
Dermal Filler injections can give you a rejuvenated face, soften your wrinkles and that pout you’ve always wanted.
As we age, the levels of structural materials in the skin (collagen and elastin) begin to decline and our face loses its subcutaneous fat. This results in volume loss which causes a wrinkled and sunken appearance. Dermal fillers can be used to plump up the skin and smooth out wrinkles and deep lines.
Hand fillers work similarly by restoring volume to the skin on the hands, reducing any mismatch between a rejuvenated face and ageing hands.
Frequently Asked Questions
What are Dermal Fillers?
‘Dermal Fillers’ is a term used to describe a wide range of products used to smooth wrinkles and plump up the skin, giving it a more contoured and youthful appearance.
How do Dermal Fillers work?
Hyaluronic acid is a natural substance found in the deep layers of the skin known as the dermis. One of its functions is to keep skin smooth and healthy by helping it to retain water. The production of hyaluronic acid declines with age which results in visible signs of ageing. Natural lines and wrinkles deepen, vertical lines appear around the mouth, deep creases run from the nose to the mouth, lips lose their fullness, the area under the eyes can become more hollow and cheeks lose their volume.
The dermal fillers we use at London Medical Cosmetics contain hyaluronic acid; they smooth fine lines and wrinkles by restoring the volume and structure to the skin. This gives a more youthful and rejuvenated appearance
How are Dermal Fillers performed?
The Dermal Filler is injected in a series of small injections, using a fine needle. The doctor may massage the treated area to ensure smooth and even distribution of the filler. The procedure takes around 30-45 minutes.
How long do Dermal Fillers last?
Results of Dermal Fillers are almost immediate and the effects last anywhere from 3 to 18 months (depending on the area treated) as the filler eventually breaks down. Once the filler starts to dissipate, you will require more filler to maintain the result.
What are the side effects of Dermal Fillers?
Redness and swelling are expected. Bruising may also occur and should fade within 5-14 days. Applying an ice pack or cold gel pack to the treated areas helps reduce redness, swelling and bruising. There may be tenderness at the sites of treatment which may last for up to a few days. Paracetamol can be used to help relieve any pain or discomfort post-treatment. The treated areas may feel firm for 1 to 2 weeks post treatment. This will soften and settle over time. All the side effects and potential complications will be discussed during your consultation, prior to any treatment. You will also receive an aftercare leaflet.
Who should NOT receive Dermal Fillers?
Patients should not use Dermal Fillers if they are pregnant, breastfeeding or are allergic to any of its components. You should avoid Dermal Fillers if you have an infection at the planned site of the injection. You will receive a detailed medical consultation with one of our highly qualified doctors to ensure that there are no contraindications to Dermal Fillers.
