No need to hide your hands
Our hands tend to age more quickly than the rest of us. Radiesse hand fillers can give you that youthful and full appearance back.
Our hands are frequently exposed to the sun and environmental irritants which can make them age quickly. As we age, the hands lose their structural materials (collagen and elastin) which results in volume loss. This makes the veins, tendons and bones more prominent and visible. People are often concerned about the mismatch between their rejuvenated face and ageing hands. Dermal hand fillers can help restore volume to the hands, making the structures of the hand less visible and thus, giving a more youthful appearance.
Frequently Asked Questions
What are Dermal Hand Fillers?
Dermal hand fillers are substances which are injected under the skin on the back of the hand. They provide volume and stimulate the body to produce collagen. We use a dermal filler called Radiesse®.
How do Dermal Hand Fillers work
Radiesse® is a dermal filler composed of calcium hydroxylapatite, a substance similar to the mineral that give your bones strength and texture, in an aqueous carrier. Radiesse® is injected into the skin to provide immediate volume. Over time, Radiesse® stimulates your body to produce more of its own natural collagen, giving your skin more volume and structure. The aqueous carrier is gradually broken down by the body leaving only the collagen behind.
How are Dermal Hand Fillers performed?
The Dermal Filler is injected in a series of small injections, using a fine needle, into the back of the hands. The doctor will massage the treated area to ensure smooth and even distribution of the filler. The procedure usually takes around 30-45 minutes. There is no risk of allergic reaction therefore no skin test is required beforehand.
How long do Dermal Hand Fillers last?
Radiesse® dermal hand fillers take some time to be broken down by the body; therefore their effects can last for up to a year. At this point, the treatment can be repeated to maintain the anti-ageing effects.
What are the side effects of Dermal Hand Fillers?
Redness and swelling are expected. Bruising may also occur and should fade within 5-14 days. Applying an ice pack or cold gel pack to the treated areas helps reduce redness, swelling and bruising. There may be tenderness at the sites of treatment which may last for up to a few days. Paracetamol can be used to help relieve any pain or discomfort post-treatment. The treated areas may feel firm for 1 to 2 weeks post treatment. This will soften and settle over time. All the side effects and potential complications will be discussed during your consultation, prior to any treatment. You will also receive an aftercare leaflet.
Who should NOT receive Dermal Hand Fillers?
Patients should not use Dermal Fillers if they are pregnant, breastfeeding or are allergic to any of its components. You should avoid Dermal Fillers if you have an infection at the planned site of the injection. You will receive a detailed medical consultation with one of our highly qualified doctors to ensure that there are no contraindications to Dermal Fillers.
